KT Wong Foundation welcomes National Ballet of China to Paris
THE KT WONG FOUNDATION WELCOMES THE REVOLUTIONARY BALLET ‘RED DETACHMENT OF WOMEN’ TO PARIS
The KT Wong Foundation was delighted to welcome the National Ballet of China’s performances of Red Detachment of Women at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris, from the 1st to the 3rd of October 2013.
The National Ballet of China gave this work its world premiere on September 26th 1964 and, after more than half a century and throughout all of its country’s political and social shifts, Red Detachment of Women has maintained all of the glamour of its very first performance, earning its rightful place as one of the cornerstones of modern Chinese culture.
Closely based on a 1958 play by Liang Xin and inspired by the popular 1962 movie of the same name, the ballet captures the essence of the revolutionary patriotism of its time and continues to enchant and entertain audiences around the world.
The first performance of this ballet at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris falls on the 1st of October – deftly coinciding with the National Day of China . The KT Wong Foundation took this timely opportunity to celebrate and highlight the strong relationship between France and China.
The KT Wong Foundation, a not-for-profit organization founded in 2007 by Lady Linda Wong Davies, aims to foster mutual understanding between China and the rest of the world, through collaborative cultural projects presenting the best of the East and West to each other.
Lady Davies said: “As a long time supporter of the National Ballet of China, I am delighted to be participating in bringing these performances to French audiences, and I hope this will continue to strengthen fruitful cultural relationships between France and China.”
