Looking Inward: A Self Portrait Workshop with Zanele Muholi – 20 February 2026

Friday, February 20th, 2026

For the first time, workshops will form part of the official programme at Investec Cape Town Art Fair 2026, opening up new opportunities for meaningful engagement, open discussion and creative ideation. This exciting addition reflects the fair’s growing commitment not only to showcasing contemporary art, but also to fostering dialogue and hands on participation.

A highlight of the inaugural workshops programme is an intimate session led by internationally celebrated artist and visual activist Zanele Muholi. Known globally for their powerful and unflinching photographic practice, Muholi invites participants to explore self portraiture as a tool for self discovery, affirmation and expression.

Looking Inward: A Self Portrait Workshop with Zanele Muholi

Taking place on Friday 20 February 2026 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM, this focused and hands on workshop offers rare access to Muholi’s conceptual and practical approach to image making. Participants will work directly with cameras provided in collaboration with Orms, ensuring that everyone can fully immerse themselves in the experience regardless of technical background.

Through guided exercises and discussion, Muholi will lead attendees in examining how self portraiture can become a space for agency and narrative control. The session will unpack not only the mechanics of photography but also the deeper questions of identity, representation and visibility that underpin Muholi’s acclaimed body of work.
