BBC Imagine: Lang Lang

Thursday, November 21st, 2013

The KT Wong Foundation, in collaboration with the BBC, began filming a landmark documentary on the life and artistry of world-renowned pianist Lang Lang, set to air in late 2012 as part of Alan Yentob’s acclaimed Imagine series. A loyal friend of Lady Linda Wong Davies and the Foundation, Lang Lang has become the most internationally recognisable classical musician of his generation—an artist whose reach has transcended concert halls to inspire millions across the globe.

The documentary traces Lang Lang’s extraordinary journey from prodigious beginnings to global stardom, weaving together performances, behind-the-scenes moments, and personal reflections. Filming took place across New York, Oxford, London, and Beijing, capturing the international scope of his career and the cultural bridges he continues to build through music.

Beyond the television broadcast, the project was designed with longevity in mind: a full-length feature film version of the documentary was scheduled for release in 2013, premiering at international film festivals to give audiences an even deeper look into the artistry and personality of this unique cultural figure.

Through this initiative, the KT Wong Foundation reinforced its mission of fostering cross-cultural dialogue and supporting world-class artistry, while celebrating Lang Lang as both a virtuoso pianist and a global ambassador for classical music.
