Yo-Yo Ma will return to Taipei’s National Concert Hall on 18 and 19 October 2026 with Wisdom for a Broken World, a new project exploring music’s capacity to connect people, inspire hope and deepen our understanding of the world around us.
Presented by MNA, the concerts will feature special guest Jeremy Dutcher, pianist Yun Janice Lu and violinist Keila Wakao. Through music and reflection, the programme invites audiences to reconsider their relationships with nature, the land and one another.
The project continues a thread running through many of Ma’s musical explorations. From Appalachian Journey and Obrigado Brazil to The Bach Project, Songs of Comfort & Hope and Our Common Nature, his work has repeatedly crossed cultural boundaries while returning to a central conviction: culture connects us.
Each of these projects has offered a different perspective on how music can create common ground. With Wisdom for a Broken World, that enquiry extends to the connections between humanity and the natural world, asking audiences to listen more closely to the relationships that sustain life.
Beginning with the expressive voice of a single cello, the programme explores ideas of interdependence, belonging and hope. Its themes reach beyond the concert platform, encouraging reflection on connections that can be overlooked in everyday life but remain fundamental to our shared existence.
For Taipei audiences, the performances offer an opportunity to encounter a new chapter in Ma’s continuing exploration of music as a meeting place for cultures, experiences and ideas. The participation of Dutcher, Lu and Wakao adds further artistic voices to a project centred on connection.
The first concert takes place on Sunday 18 October at 4pm, followed by a second performance on Monday 19 October at 7.45pm, both at Taipei’s National Concert Hall.
General ticket sales opened through MNA’s ticketing platform on 18 August, following a priority booking period for eligible KGI cardholders and MNA Gold and Silver members.
