Benedict Cumberbatch’s new movie skips cinemas for Amazon release in the UK

The Mauritanian will stream from April.

The Mauritanian, Benedict Cumberbatch’s latest movie, is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video, skipping a cinema release.

The movie, which also stars Oscar-winner Jodie Foster, The Serpent’s Tahar Rahim and Big Little Lies’ Shailene Woodley, was originally set for release later this month. However, it has been confirmed that the flick will now stream on Amazon from April 1.

The Mauritanian focuses on Mohamedou Ould Slahi (Rahim), a man accused of being “the head recruiter for 9/11”.

Slahi is kept in Guantanamo Bay for years without being charged, though manages to find allies in defence lawyer Nancy Hollander (Foster) and her associate Teri Duncan (Woodley) as they attempt to seek justice.

Marvel’s Cumberbatch takes on the role of Lt Colonel Stuart Couch, a military prosecutor who comes across evidence that threatens to expose “a shocking and far-reaching conspiracy”.
