Monday, September 1st, 2025

  • Date & Time: 26 September 2025 at 7:30 pm

  • Venue: Concert Hall, Hong Kong Cultural Centre

The Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra will present its National Day Concert, Music of Heroes and Legends, on 26 September 2025 at the Concert Hall of the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. The programme promises a thrilling and evocative musical journey led by Principal Guest Conductor Yu Long.

The concert opens with Shostakovich’s Festive Overture, a brilliant and powerful orchestral statement that sets the evening alight with energy and drama. Audiences will then experience the Hong Kong premiere of Tan Dun’s Violin Concerto Hero, a work of grand cinematic sweep that channels the martial spirit of classic storytelling. The evening continues with Elliot Leung’s Wuxia, a contemporary orchestral portrayal of chivalric tales drawn from Jin Yong’s beloved novels and infused with cultural resonance.

Under Yu Long’s direction, the HK Phil will be joined by Concertmaster Jing Wang and dizi soloist Feng Tianshi. The blending of Western symphonic tradition with Chinese instruments and artistic voices points to a broader artistic vision of cultural integration.

Yu Long, who holds key leadership positions in China’s major orchestras and is the first mainland conductor to serve as Principal Guest Conductor for the HK Phil, brings depth and prestige to the concert. His role underscores the continuity and innovation that characterise Hong Kong’s orchestral life.

This National Day Concert promises more than a performance. It offers a vibrant cross-cultural dialogue that honours tradition while embracing modern creativity. For local and returning audiences alike it is sure to stand as a highlight of the season.
